Colossi of Memnon

They are the famous gigantic statues that are along the road from the Valley of the Queens and Medinet Habu going towards the Nile river. They are made out of hard yellowish-brown sandstone that is quarried out of the hills in Edfu.

The statues showcase Amenophis III sitting on a throne and a guard at the king’s temple entrance. However, it is in ruins now. The South Colossus is about 19.59-meters high but is partly buried in the sand while the North Colossus also called the musical statue is more attractive and is supposed to emit a musical note at sunrise.
