Citadel of Qaitbay

This 15th-century fortress was established in 1477AD. Mamluke Sultan Qaitbey constructed this structure to safeguard Egypt from any attack. All the material is used from the fallen Lighthouse.

It has a series of stone-walled chambers that make it look magnificient. You must climb up on the roof of the structure to get a magnificent view of the Mediterranean. The fortress was severely damaged when the British attacked Alexandria in 1882 but it was rebuilt in the 20th century.

Today, tourists flock to this fortress to get a slice of Egyptian history, see the Navel museum, and to marvel at a rock-solid structure that has stood the test of time.
