Cairo Opera House

It is the main performing arts venue in the capital and a part of the National Cultural Center. It is home to Egypt’s best musical groups. There are many great performances taking place at this venue often.

It was originally built in 1869 to celebrate the opening of the Suez Canal and was called Khedivial (Royal) Opera House. It was meant to be the symbol of arts, drama, and music. This Opera house was the first on the African continent to have world popular operas and symphonic masterpieces.

Unfortunately, in 1971, the Opera house was destroyed completely by fire and rebuilt later. Today, the Opera house has seven theaters, an art gallery, a music library, and a museum.
