Started in 1912, the Aswan museum has artifacts from Nubia that were there when the Aswan dam was constructed. It also has items that were found on Elephantine island including weapons, pottery, mummies, and utensils. The museum also has sarcophagi from the pre-dynastic era to the Roman period. All the artifacts are categorized and kept in different glass cases and each of them explains a particular period of life on the island during the ancient times.
