Valley of Kings

It was the final resting place of the kings in the 18th, 19th and 20th dynasties. Located between rocky escarpments, the Valley of Kings is visited by tourists from far and wide for the vivid wall paintings. It was believed that the dead man along with the Sun god sailed at night in a boat. The tomb walls are adorned with texts and scenes describing this journey. There are 63 tombs within the valley. Periodically, these tombs are opened to preserve the paintings from the damage caused by humidity.
